The III Committee is dedicated to dealing with human rights issues, including those matters relative to the reports of the special procedures of the recently established Human Rights Council. Year after year, the III Committee considers over 67 resolutions, many under the framework of human rights.
The III Committee discusses issues regarding the following:
- The advancement of women
- Protection of children
- Indigenous peoples’ issues
- Treatment of refugees
- Promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination
- Promotion of the right to self- determination
The III Committee also deals with important matters concerning social development, such as issues regarding the youth, ageing, family, people with disabilities, crime prevention, criminal justice and drug control.
